Lavinia stood gazing around her old childhood room. It was as she left it before heading off to ESU (The Eastern Shores University), the elite private university located next to the dazzling Eastern Turquoise Sea. Lavinia drifted off into her thoughts, remembering a time when she was the apple of her parent’s eyes. Dinner parties were centered around her doll-like beauty and exquisite piano performances for all the guests in attendance.
She closed her eyes and remembered the applause and how people commented on her beautiful handmade silk dresses. Lavinia’s mother always had her dresses made at the Pretty Pyrite’s Children’s Boutique on Red Coral street. Lavinia wished things could have stayed that way forever.
‘’ Lavinia....’’ Lavinia heard a small familiar voice and quickly opened her eyes.
Her heart skipped a beat as her facial expression changed, she bawled her fist and shrieked in an unbecoming voice.
Lavinia turned to see her wide-eyed little sister Lacy standing in the doorway. She eyed little Lacy, frustrated at the sight of the soft curls encircling her small precious face with long, curly lashes, making Lacy's eyes appear larger and sweeter. The bashful pink dress complemented Lacy’s smooth complexion, the dress’s stylish frills only added to Lacy’s charm.
‘’Get out of here, Lacy! I told you never to come in here. I don’t care that I no longer live here, get out!” Lavinia screamed.
‘’I’m sorry,” Lacy said in a small voice, “I just heard you arrived, and I wanted you to sit next to me tonight at the party.’’
Lavinia felt even angrier; she thought she was on to Lacy’s strategy.
‘’Don’t you dare peddle that sweet little girl routine in my direction; you think you're some precious flower, get out!” With that, Lacy quickly left the room.
As everyone was seated for dinner; delightful conversation was made as they enjoyed their scrumptious meals. Lavinia did her best to allow for her charisma and beauty to shine through. although she felt invisible in the presence of
her gorgeous mother and
darling little sister, whom she frequently gave glances of disgust throughout the night when she was sure no one would see.
Once dinner was over, all the guests made their way onto the gazebo to enjoy each other's company.
Lavinia peeled off from the group, looking up at the moon. She could see the brilliant sparkles dancing off her necklace from the halo of sparkle captured by the light of the moon.
Lavinia remembered the first time she laid eyes on the scintillating Swiss blues topaz gemstone necklace encompassed by glowing freshwater pearls and silver accents of reflective hematite gemstone. She remembered it had been a birthday gift from her dear father, whom she loved and respected the most.
“Sweetheart, is something bothering you?” She smelled the intoxicating cologne her father always wore. She turned to see her handsome father standing tall in the moonlight his hand out stretched with a single red rose. Lavinia raced to hug him, enjoying the strength of his embrace.
“I saw you were walking over here by yourself; why don’t you join us? Our guests were looking forward to hearing all about your recent trip to Lava Stone Island,’’ said Robert.
Lavinia’s spirit brightened now that she felt she was receiving the attention she felt she rightfully deserved. She spent almost the entire evening regaling her fantastic trip with the famous Haley Jackson to everyone who took an interest in all she had accomplished. Shooting superior glances at Lacy every so often. As the party came to a close, Lavinia bid everyone a good night, making sure to leave before her little sister Lacy could ask for a hug and receive credit for being so sweet and thoughtful.
Lavinia sat in silence in the back seat of the limousine, she thought to herself. ‘’I know mom and dad favor Lacy more than me!
I am know I will have to look after myself since they will leave the entire Trevils fortune to the golden child!’’ Lavinia’s eyes burned with fresh tears as she choked back her sobs. The last thing she wanted was for her driver to hear her sobbing.
‘’Maybe am being too melodramatic,’’ she thought. ‘’Either way, I have to spend more time with mom and dad; more importantly, I have to find a way to stay relevant. Haley Jackson is my ticket! Everyone enjoyed my story! Everyone will talk about how amazing I am the one who acquired Haley Jackson as a client.’’ Lavinia looked at her reflection in the window and smiled, ‘’Oh everyone knows I am a Trevils...I am a star! That has to count for something, right? I hope so. I hope so...”
